The band has an array of tunes
under its belt, meaning Rukus never needs to play the same set list
twice. A couple of fan favorites include Santana’s ‘Chill Out’ and the
Commodores’ ‘Brick House.’ Expect contemporary covers like Sister Hazel,
too. The Rukus band is lead by Russ Niccum on Guitar and Vocals
and the rest of the band includes Lynard Ladd on keyboards, Andy Ray on bass and
Alex Austin on percussion, and (sometimes) Garrett Shaberg on Saxophone.
WILD RUKUS
Creating a disturbance around Independence!
Russell Niccum refuses to let rock‘n’blues die. He’s been strumming
since grade school, and he started Rukus more than 18 years ago. Band
mates have come and gone... casualties of full-time jobs, marriages and
kids. Still, the Independence, Mo.-based band rocks on with direction
from its founding member. Covers often take the place of Niccum’s
originals when they play around the Kansas City area because, let’s face
it, that’s what the clubs want. The band has an array of tunes under its
belt, meaning Rukus never needs to play the same set list twice. A
couple of fan favorites include Europa by Santana Hush by Deep Purple
Expect contemporary covers like John Hiatt, Feels Like Rain too. OK,
that pays the bills, but Niccum still hopes to put out a original record
of Rock'in Blues in the summer of 2008 . That’s where you might hear
influences like Jimi Hendrix mixed with many Lengendary God Fathers of
the Blues.. Russ knowledege of music continues to grow ! (Hence)The
BlueShakers another of Russell's music endeavors!-BE
