About Soca Jukebox...
Much more than a mere novelty
act, Soca Jukebox
has established themselves as one of the region’s premier show
bands. As the only professional touring Steel Drum ensemble in
the Midwest, they are a highly sought-after organization of
talented players, steeped in percussion performance. Each
member of the Soca
Jukebox is a Multi-instrumentalist with percussion, vocal
and string backgrounds. The core of the group has been playing
and performing together since their college days in the mid-90’s.
Their studies included Master classes with Trinidadian Steel Drum
inventor/pioneer, Elle Mannet and numerous Caribbean and Latin
percussion specialists. Clay Johnston (Lead Vocal, Double
Seconds), Jay Albright (Lead Pan), Ben Leimkuhler (Bass), Mark
Elting (Drum Set) and Jason Riley (Guitar) make up this
one-of-a-kind quintet. Each musician’s lengthy credentials and
extensive experience enhance the group’s varied repertoire and
unique interpretations.
Taking their name from a popular Caribbean music style, the group performs traditional island music as well as more familiar Classic Rock hits. They give every song their defining Latin and Reggae twist. This high energy, rhythm based presentation is the very element that endears them to their audiences. They have been featured numerous times as main stage entertainment at festivals, corporate events, private parties, clubs and special presentations. Soca Jukebox is the perfect group to create a dance-hall party feel and musical caribbean vacation. Their presentation is charismatic, up-beat and truly entertaining.
